Common Fears Of Paintball Beginners (And Why You Shouldn't Worry)

Common Fears Of Paintball Beginners (And Why You Shouldn't Worry)
Playing paintball for the first time can be exciting. In some ways, your first game is the most exciting of all. However, it can also be nerve-wracking, and beginners often find they are nervous or frightened of a number of things. In truth, for most people there is no real reason to be afraid before your first game. Some of the common fears beginners have, and the reasons you probably don't need to fear them, include:

Paintball pains
Common Fears Of Paintball Beginners (And Why You Shouldn't Worry)
One of the big fears of beginners is that paintballing is going to hurt. Given the fact that the sport involves being hit with projectiles fired from a gun at speeds of around 200 miles per hour, this is perfectly understandable. Fortunately, despite what you might think paintball isn't really particularly painful.

As long as you wear fairly thick clothes, most of the balls you get hit by won't probably hurt you at all. Any slight stinging sensation they do cause will probably be drowned out by the adrenaline that tends to flow pretty liberally in the heat of a game. Now and again you might get hit in a sensitive spot and feel a sting, but even then it's not exactly unbearable. It's a bit like getting pinged with a rubber band. If you're still not feeling reassured, then there's a good chance the paintball site you're going to will be able to lend you some dedicated armour for extra protection.

What if I suck?

Another common fear amongst paintball first-timers is that they will just embarrass themselves with their poor quality of play. There are a couple of reasons this fear is almost certainly unfounded. Firstly, everyone is a beginner at one point or another and nobody delivers a champion performance in their first game. The other players will understand this, so there is absolutely no reason to be embarassed about your inexperience.

Secondly, you most likely won't really embarrass yourself at all. Paintball is very much a team game, and everyone from deadly-accurate snipers to the most uncertain beginner can play their part. You will have help from your teammates to work out what you should be doing and how to pull it off. As long as you communicate well and cooperate with the rest of your team, you will most likely prove a useful asset in spite of your inexperience.

Will it be scary? Common Fears Of Paintball Beginners (And Why You Shouldn't Worry)
Not everyone would like to admit it for fear of sounding like a wimp, but a lot of first-timers are simply worried that paintball will prove a very scary and intimidating experience. After all, it's basically simulated warfare with a load of people shooting one another. Sounds pretty frightening, right?

This is one of those cases where what you really fear is fear itself. Paintball will only be scary if you let the idea intimidate you. As frightening as it sounds, it's all a game. The opposing team are not out to kill you and, used properly, their weapons are not dangerous. Just relax and let yourself enjoy it.
